OWENSVILLE — Clermont Northeastern won the season series over Blanchester Thursday with a 3-1 win in SBAAC National Division girls soccer.

The Rockets defeated the Wildcats 2-0 earlier in the season.

The loss was the first for BHS after two straight wins. The Wildcats (7-6 overall, 2-5 National) have now played five consecutive road matches.

“I thought our girls played pretty well, but CNE was able to overload our defense and find the back of the net,” BHS coach Kyle Hamilton said. “Laylla (Sears) had a nice breakaway goal for us but their midfield and defense kept us from (having) many scoring opportunities.”

The Rockets are 4-3 in league play and 6-8 overall.

CNE scored early in the match off a corner kick then didn’t score again until the second half on a shot from outside the box.

Sears made it 2-1 with a breakaway goal but Clermont NE made it a two-goal game again with about eighth minutes remaining in the match.

Karlee Tipton had five saves in goal for Blanchester while Ava Lanham made four saves.
