Self-defense seminar set for women

WILMINGTON — A free local seminar on women’s self-protection and rape prevention is scheduled for Thursday evening.

Expected to last an hour, the seminar will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Jen’s Deli, 28 W. Main St. in downtown Wilmington.

The seminar is geared for females 14 and older, said Dr. William Kennedy, a clinical psychologist with 18 years experience in the area of mental health. He operates Kennedy Consulting, 1550 West Main St. in Wilmington.

The seminar is a partnership involving Kennedy Consulting, Team Torque Martial Arts, Jen’s Deli, the Wilmington Police Department, and Alternatives to Violence.

Team Torque Martial Arts, Inc. is a nonprofit program, based in Wilmington, that trains children, teens and adults to be well-rounded and skillful martial artists, states its website.
