The Clinton County Country Squares had a banner year — more than 30 dancers signed up for square dance lessons, and 25 graduated. They had 8 year-olds on up, and “we are very proud of this group of dancers. They are very enthusiastic and quick to learn,” said Wilma Hollon of Clinton County Country Squares.
They have been attending other regular dances in the area and also attended the 56th Ohio Dance Convention May 6-7 in Columbus. The theme was “Mardi Gras Magic”, and this was the first year in many that the state convention had a Youth Hall. “This was because we had so many young dancers who had taken lessons this past year. We could not be happier with these young (and not so young) dancers,” Hollon said.
She added that Ken Roberts, the club caller, “did an awesome job of teaching this class.”
Square dance lessons will start Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 7:30-9 p.m. The first two classes are free; they are open to anyone and you don’t need to have a partner.
Lessons and dances are held at the Clinton County Senior Center, 717 N. Nelson Ave., Wilmington. Dances are the first, third and fifth Thursdays of the month. Call Wilma Hollon at 937-783-3684 if you have any questions.
