Sabina Alumni hold 133rd meeting

SABINA — Members of the Sabina Alumni Association came together at the 133rd annual meeting June 4 at the Sabina Elementary School to reminisce about their days as students. Attending were 149 members and guests.

President Diane Arrasmith Anders welcomed everyone. Phil Snow offered the invocation. A delicious buffet dinner of pulled pork and honey pecan chicken was prepared and served by Traditions Restaurant. Sherrie Stoops and Larry East entertained the group with a variety of musical selections during the dinner hour.

It was decided to appoint Diane Arrasmith Anders as computer specialist.

The oldest member present was Dale Hiles from the 1942 class. The member traveling the farthest was a tie between Dick Davis and Gary Riddle, both from Oregon. All received a gift certificate.

Those attending from the honored classes beginning with the 70-year class of 1946 were Joann Foster Gray and Harold Anderson.

From the 65-year class of 1951 were Juanita Bernard Davis, Jean Allen Barrett, Wayne West, Harold Wilson, Carolyn Woodmansee Akers and Betty Dawson Newman.

From the 60-year class of 1956 were Katherine Smith Pawley, Jim Day, Alma Faye Bernard Gilmore, Barbara Chaney Bourne, Beverly Arrasmith Riley and Nancy Thurber Boldman.

From the 55-year class of 1961 were Jim ad Patty Reese, Sara Carter Hoppenstand, Janet Nace Sloan, Beverly Parkison Yee, Joy Mitchell Vance, Norma Morris Villars, Lynda Barber Vasilovis, Kay Stewart, Sharon Hartley Davis, Bill Jenkins and Rosalie Hoover Guerra.

From the 50-year class of 1966 from East Clinton were Sue Morgan Allen, Diane Arrasmith Anders, Roxie Case Bartlett, Barbara Howard Briggs, Linda Moore Carson, Brenda Pinkerton Cook, Mary Lou Bernard Dauberman, Richard Davis, Joyce Elzey, Marybeth Villars Gilkison, Bruce Gray, Jill Sparks Richard, Gary Riddle, Gary Shadley, Steve Smith, Vicki Baird Staffan, Donna Rhoades Stephenson, Ed Stephenson, Trent Talmage and Hugh Terrell.

Deceased alumni members since the 2015 meeting were remembered in a moment of silent meditation. They were Helen Beverly, 1942; Marvin Waddle, 1944; Vera Daughtrey Jones, 1949; Joann Marsh Evans, 1950; Millard Spradlin, 1950; Nancy Jane Crane Cunningham, 1955; Roger Smith, 1957; Mary Belle Hoover Tolle, 1959; Tom Grooms, 1959; Martin Smith, 1962 and John Hunt, 1964.

The 134th alumni banquet will be held June 3, 2017.

Slate of officers for 2017 are: Joyce Arrasmith, President; Lois Steiner, 1st Vice President; Beverly Parkison Yee, 2nd Vice President; Carol Sue Reese Rankin, 3rd Vice President; Esther Combs, Recording Secretary; Norma Soale, Corresponding Secretary.
