SABINA — Proceeds from this Saturday’s “Country Cruze for a Cause” will go to the Brett Wightman Memorial Foundation, which annually awards $500 scholarships benefiting two East Clinton graduates.

The fundraising event will include an afternoon car show, horseshoe and corn hole tournaments, a silent auction of donated items and 50-50 raffle, the Chazziz DJ Service, a live band in the evening and Flint Foods Concession.

The event will be hosted by, and held at, Luttrell Trucking, 5775 State Route 72 South in the Sabina area.

“There are tons of donated items available for the silent auction,” said an organizer, William “Will” Saylor.

The car show, held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, is open to all vehicle makes, models and years. The registration fee for the car show is $10.

Registration for the horseshoe or corn hole tournaments is $10 at noon Saturday. The horseshoe tournament starts at 1 p.m., and the corn hole competition will follow after the horseshoe sporting event is over.

The local area band “Thirty ot 6” will perform between 7:30 p.m. to midnight. It plays a mix of country and rock.

The Country Cruze fundraiser is BYOB. Though there will be seating on site, attendees are asked to bring their own lawn chairs in case there is, as hoped, a sizable crowd.

Lance Cpl. Brett Wightman, a U.S. Marine and an East Clinton Local Schools graduate, was killed in action almost 11 years ago. He was killed in an Aug. 3, 2005 roadside bombing in Iraq.

The Brett Wightman Memorial Foundation was started in his memory.
