A Wilmington man who police say they found in April with six pounds of marijuana in his vehicle was among 11 people indicted Tuesday by the Highland County Grand Jury.

Jeremy Curtis, 39, was indicted Tuesday for third-degree felony trafficking in marijuana and third-degree felony possession of marijuana.

Curtis had three active warrants out for his arrest, according to the police department. One warrant was from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on a reckless operation charge, another was from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for a child support hearing, and the third warrant was from the Wilmington Police Department for failure to appear on a DUI charge.

Back in April, Hillsboro Police Chief Todd Whited said that police officers from the HPD, Highland County Sheriff’s Office and the 23 Pipeline Task Force were investigating illegal drugs coming into the city through the U.S. Postal Service to an undisclosed address.

He said that when officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by Curtis, they were not surprised to find six pounds of marijuana.

“We knew it would be where it was at,” Whited said at the time.

The police chief said the drugs were in a package that was much larger than it needed to be. He said the drugs could have fit into a grocery bag.

In other indictments, James Doyle and James Walburn, both of Chillicothe, were indicted for fifth-degree felony theft regarding theft from a local store.

Amanda Cheshire, Hillsboro, was indicted for third-degree felony theft involving the theft of guns.

Frank Bryant Jr., 28, Hillsboro, was indicted for third-degree felony unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in a case involving a 14-year-old girl, according to Anneka Collins, the county prosecutor.

Other indictments handed down Tuesday included:

• Robert Preston III, Mt. Orab, second-degree felony illegal manufacture of drugs and third-degree felony illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.

• Fiona McGinty, Hillsboro, second-degree felony burglary, first-degree misdeanor theft, and fifth-degree misdemeanor theft.

• Derek Kimmey, Hillsboro, third-degree felony illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, and fifth-degree felony possession of heroin.

• Joseph Scott, Highland, two counts of third-degree felony intimidation.

• Amelia Beth Minzler, third-degree felony tampering with evidence.

• Brian Nicely, Hillsboro, third-degree felony illegal cultivation of marijuana, third-degree felony possession of marijuana, third-degree felony having weapons while under disability, fifth-degree felony possession of criminal tools, and a forfeiture specification.
