Clinton County man dies in apparent drowning

GREEN TWP. — A Wilmington man apparently drowned while swimming in a Clinton County pond Sunday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Blake Christopher Allen, 20, of 1320 Antioch Road.

According to the report from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, police were dispatched to a residence at 1778 Antioch Road in Green Twp. at 4:46 p.m. Sunday in reference to a male who was swimming in a pond and went under water. Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Kirk reported that upon his arrival, witnesses on the scene said the man “started yelling for help and went under water and never reappeared.”

Allen had attended Wilmington High School and was later homeschooled, according to friends.

“I have known Blake since middle school and he has always been a great friend with a positive attitude,” said Chris Gunkel. “He was always there when you needed him and could always put a smile on anyone’s face.”

“I have know Blake since middle school and he was always the funny guy, always trying to make someone smile,” said Branson Newbry. “If you were having a bad day, he would make you forget all about it within minutes.”

The News Journal is awaiting further information, including official cause of death, from the Clinton County Coroner’s Office.
