Man charged with flag theft

WILMINGTON — Officers were dispatched last month to East Locust Street for a report of a man that had set an American flag on fire and shoved it down the storm drain.

“The subject was identified and upon contact with a local resident, officers were able to determine the owner of the American flag as well as an Air Force flag that had been stolen,” said WPD Chief Duane Weyand.

The suspect, Hunter Fields, 21 — with an at-large arrest — could not be immediately located. But on Saturday he was located and Wilmington police charged him with theft, Weyand said.

Fields is currently in the Clinton County Jail, Weyand said.
