WHS students share event with grandparents

WILMINGTON — “Special People Deserve a Special Day.” That was the message students at Wilmington High School hoped to convey recently when they invited their grandparents to attend WHS’ annual Grandparents Day, a 60-plus year tradition in the making.

Organized by WHS’ Student Council, this year’s celebration found 100 students and 180 grandparents making memories as they shared brunch, good conversation, and played several rounds of bingo.

Speaking on behalf of their friends and classmates, student council members Averi Vance and Emily Davis paid tribute to Wilmington’s grandparents by reading poetry that highlighted the bond between grandparents and their grandchildren.

Adding to the event was a photo slideshow presentation capturing grandparents in the act of doing what they do best — beaming with pride and spoiling their grandchildren.

Sophomore Makayla Henry’s guest of honor was her grandmother Gloria Pratt. For more photos of the event, see inside today’s paper.
