Having a ball for charity

WILMINGTON — The Health Alliance of Clinton County hosted its annual Holiday Ball for charity on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Roberts Centre.

Guests entered the ballroom through a cluster of tall white trees standing among lighted wisps of snow-like netting and brightly wrapped packages, and slow-moving projected snowflakes swirled around the entrance floor.

Hostesses greeted guests with complimentary cocktails and holiday punch flowing from a beverage fountain, and the hors d’oeuvres table was centered by a beautiful snowflake ice sculpture surrounded by fresh evergreens and several choices of appetizers. The main ballroom was decorated with dozens of white tree branches sparkling with glitter, atop the dining and auction tables.

The color scheme created a dramatic presentation on the dining tables of black tablecloths embroidered with white swirled designs with bright red sequined fabric encircling the base of the trees that were adorned with silver balls and black and white checkered bows.

Packages in all sizes were wrapped in whimsical designs and scattered among the trees and lighted snow drifts creating the colorful background for the auction table items. Fanciful patterns of geometric designs including checks, stripes, harlequin patterns, and polka dots, all accented with red and green holiday colors, created the festive mood.

The packages represented the intent of the Health Alliance to celebrate the gift of giving, and large red poinsettias added the traditional holiday touch.

Lighted images of evergreen trees and white twig trees were projected on the ballroom walls creating a warm and cozy atmosphere throughout, and the bandstand was framed with lighted evergreen trees, tall nutcrackers, and a small old fashioned sled filled with colorful packages.

President Louanne Blumberg welcomed everyone and thanked the Ball Committee members and Chairmen, Jennifer Hollon and Ann Johnson. She also acknowledged the many businesses and individuals who helped to sponsor the ball and spoke of the charities that will benefit from the evening’s proceeds.

She dedicated the event to the memory of Janet Perkins, who recently passed away and had been a loyal and dedicated member of the Alliance. Frances Sharp gave the invocation.

Danny Williams acted as auctioneer, as he has for many years, and was assisted by Rhonda Wise of Kersey Real Estate and Renita Edwards. Music was by the band Laika from Cincinnati, providing lively music throughout the event.

Enjoying the ball are George Bush, Jean Lay, Greg Carey, Tina Foster, Amy Rowsey and Walt Rowsey.
