Blan Middle students collecting socks, gloves, hats for others

BLANCHESTER — Students at Blanchester Middle School are taking action and becoming involved through various community service projects as a way to give back to a community that is very supportive of their schools.

Students began collecting new socks, hats and gloves on Nov. 28 and will continue to collect items through Dec. 16. Each grade level randomly chose items to bring in during their monthly Blue PRIDE assembly in November.

The student of the month for each grade level chose a box containing a certain item which revealed to the student body a sock, hat or glove. Makayla Cress chose the box containing socks for the eighth grade, Bryan Brewer’s box contained gloves for the seventh grade while Bella Jones selected the box with the hat for the sixth grade.

While the goal was to collect enough items to donate to a local organization, students have exceeded expectations by bringing in over 425 items since November, a number which continues to grow daily — allowing a variety of organizations, such as Continental Manor, American Legion Post 179, The Exchange in Blanchester and the Clinton County Homeless Shelter to benefit from their generosity.

Individuals wanting to help the cause can drop off new socks, gloves or hats at Blanchester Middle School through Wednesday, Dec. 14.
