The Clinton County Genealogy Society recently held its Annual Banquet honoring the Clinton County Genealogist of the Year, new inductees to the First Family of Clinton County Society, Civil War Society and Settlers and Builders Society.

After a delicious dinner catered by Shoelaces, a short business meeting took place for the acceptance of the nominating committee’s slate of officers for 2017. The slate of officers was elected: Gene Snyder, President; Jim Burge, Vice President; Judy Spurlock, Recording Secretary; Kim Stackhouse, Assistant Recording Secretary; Barbara Daulton, Corresponding Secretary; Ron Johnson, Treasurer; and Jim Hackney, Assistant Treasurer.

Three new inductees were announced for the First Families of Clinton County Society: Douglas D Herbert, whose ancestor was George C. Herbert; Connie Holmes McKinney, a descendant of Andrew Rhonemus; and David L. Luck, a descendant of Hiram Connell. Members of the First Families of Clinton County have proven direct lineage from an ancestor who resided in Clinton County prior to 1820.

Also inducted this year in the Settlers and Builders of Clinton County was Jean Anne Vandervort True, a descendant of John Hoover, Benjamin Cole, David Shields and William Brandenburg. The Settlers and Builders Society is open to members who are able to prove direct lineage from an ancestor who lived in Clinton County between the years of 1820 and 1860.

This year there were no inductees into the Civil War Society, which is a society open to the direct descendants of Civil War veterans who either were living in Clinton County when they left to fight in the war or Civil War veterans who are buried in Clinton County.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of any of these societies can find more information online at clintoncountyhistory.org under the About Us tab in the genealogical society section.

Karen McKenzie, 2015 Genealogist of the Year, announced the Genealogist of the Year for 2016, Frances Sharp.

Leslie Holmes, 2016 President, closed the evening with the reading of letter from her father written home from his WWII post in Germany, Christmas Eve 1945 describing the Christmas traditions he was missing that Christmas Eve.
