WILMINGTON — Over 200 parents and students were in attendance recently at the College Credit Plus Information Night held at the Laurel Oaks Career Campus. The event was sponsored and hosted by the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center (SOESC), and Blanchester, Clinton-Massie and East Clinton schools.

The event featured a presentation overview of the College Credit Plus program and breakout sessions that allowed students and parents to meet with their respective school counselors to discuss school-specific programs and protocols for students interested in pursuing the CCP option.

According to Curt Bradshaw, Coordinator of Gifted Services with the SOESC, the College Credit Plus program offers college-ready students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and earn college credit before graduating from high school.

“Students may take these CCP courses on college campuses, online, and many of our area high schools offer College Credit Plus courses in-house in their own buildings, which provide students easy access to several CCP courses,” said Bradshaw. “Parents and students should consider all of the risks and benefits of participation, and they should speak with their high school guidance counselor for information about their College Credit Plus options.”

To offer additional insight and further discuss options available to students, representatives from Cedarville University, Chatfield College, Sinclair Community College, and Southern State Community College were on hand to speak one-on-one to prospective students.

Clermont College, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati—Blue Ash and Wright State University provided resources and brochures that were also made available to students.

Additional College Credit Plus presentations are scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 in the Clinton-Massie High School Community Room and the Wilmington High School Auditeria.

Blanchester High School will also host a presentation at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14 in the high school auditeria.
