BHS goes (Army) green

BLANCHESTER — Blanchester High School recently found itself the center of activity for US Army recruiters.

As students participated in a rigorous obstacle course set up in the school’s gymnasium, they learned about the qualities necessary within the army and its many branches. The recruiters tending to the event all spoke highly of the day’s activities and the beneficial qualities they hoped to bring attention to.

Whether through teamwork or problem-solving, the activities all tested the students physically and mentally. With the Air Lift and the Strategy Tower, students challenged themselves to take on roles of leadership while learning to communicate alongside their teammates.

These courses, a blend of strategy and speed, were designed to show students what the army is all about — teamwork.

Blanchester is one of only 36 schools visited by the High School Challenge. Students who completed the obstacles earned themselves shirts if they managed to make it in under one minute,45 seconds.

Throughout the day, the event drew a crowd of those who, in one way or another, consider the military an option for their future. As much as the High School Challenge is training for some, it is eye-opening for others.

Blanchester High School thanks those who brought the High School Challenge here.
