CLARKSVILLE — Thirty-nine National Honor Society students from Clinton-Massie High School recently left the farm fields behind and took to the streets of The Big Apple.

Following a late-night departure and early morning arrival, students hit the ground running excited to explore the culture, sights, sounds and entertainment intrinsic to life in the big city.

Students visited the American Museum of Natural History, toured Central Park, and dined at the Hard Rock Cafe — and that was just on day one.

Day two found students taking the ferry to Ellis Island, where they were humbled during a guided tour that chronicled the island’s history during its busiest years of operation, 1892-1924.

Students toured both the baggage room where immigrants checked their belongings and the Great Hall where immigrants proceeded for inspection.

They stood in awe of the Statue of Liberty and experienced the solemnness of Ground Zero and the 911 Memorial.

Sitting in the Majestic Theater, students were enchanted as they watched Phantom of the Opera, the longest-running show in the history of Broadway.

There was a stop at Times Square for a commemorative photo, and a visit to Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum where students posed for more pictures with the likenesses of The Incredible Hulk, Anderson Cooper, Kim Kardashian, and the Queen of England.
