WHS Class of ‘61 reunites in Florida

A Wilmington High School Class of ‘61 reunion was enjoyed on March 4 by seven classmates and their spouses in Tavares, Florida.

Several went on a boat tour of Lake Dora and the Dora Canal out of Mt. Dora earlier in the day. Everyone enjoyed a relaxing tour with lots of wildlife to see, along with a history of the city, lake and canal.

Early evening, everyone gathered at the Hurricane Dockside Bar and Grill in Tavares for their southern reunion. Since several classmates live in Florida and in the southern states, the get-together was announced last summer at the class’s 55th reunion. Most attending had not been able to make the 55th reunion last July.

Classmates and spouses enjoying the evening were: Don (Sandy) Miley from Mississippi; Tom (Paula) Wood from South Carolina; Bonnie Mathews from Ohio; and from Florida were Sam (Karen) Lewis; Ed (Ricki) Haines; Mary Alice Snyder Bryan (Allen); Phil (Jacque) Muladore; and friends of several of the classmates, Paul and Kaaren Dunlap. Paul is a 1956 WHS graduate.

Stories of high school and many pictures were enjoyed by all. Phil Muladore and Mary Alice Bryan put the plans together for the event. Such a good time was had by all and it is likely that another Florida reunion will be in the making!
