CVB names Valentine new director

WILMINGTON — Susan Valentine will bring nearly 20 years of sales, marketing and management experience as the new executive director of the Clinton County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The CVB board made the announcement this week after conducting an extensive search following the untimely death in December of Debbie Stamper, who directed the bureau for 18 years.

Valentine has extensive experience in the hospitality industry, most recently as director of sales and marketing for Holiday Inn, Roberts Centre and Max & Erma’s in Wilmington. She held similar positions for hotels and conference centers in Indiana and Michigan, in addition to serving as a hotel general manager.

Also, she was a recent member of the local CVB board.

Valentine, who grew up in the area, shared her excitement for being named to the position. She noted that she has long been aware of Clinton County’s desirable geographic location and the many attractions, attributes and amenities the area has to offer as an overnight destination and for other visitors.

“I am looking forward to great accomplishments and building strong relationships both inside and outside our market,” she said. “We have so much to offer and one of my goals is to showcase our city and county in the most vibrant and professional way.”

Doug DeVilbiss, president of the CVB Board, said he is “excited and thrilled” with Valentine’s appointment, adding that she emerged as most qualified from an extremely strong group of candidates.

“Susan brings great energy, commitment and an existing understanding of the tourism industry,” he said. “We look forward to her direction and collaborative efforts to promote the mission of the Clinton CVB, and believe that our stakeholders will appreciate her talent to do so.”
