Members of the Wilmington Garden Club spent the spring and summer observing gardens and landscaping around town. Each year, the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs allows local clubs to award certificates to individuals, businesses, and private institutions.

The 2015 Wilmington awards are presented to CVS and The Ghermans, in appreciation of their attractive gardens and landscaping.

The Community Commercial Landscaping Award was given to CVS, 120 Main St. Store manager Michael Niehaus accepted the award and mentioned that “the certificate will be placed in the hall next to the huge poster of opening day at the new store … So all employees can see it.”

Shift supervisors Marianne Chaney, Rhonda Howell and Stacy Shaver are instrumental in the new store’s service to residents. That service has increased, due to the addition of the drive-through pharmacy.

The Residential Landscaping Award was given to Cheryl and Denny Gherman, of 625 N. Nelson Ave. Denny was quick to say, “Cheryl is in charge of the flowers.”

Their yard changes with the seasons, and currently the flowers and fall decorations are a delight. Drive slowly by their house and enjoy the sight, including scarecrows and pumpkins.

The Wilmington Garden Club appreciates the work of CVS and The Ghermans in making the city beautiful. The club always welcomes new members. Meetings are the second Monday of each month. For more information, call President Terri Thobaben at 937-725-1471.
