Carl William Spilker, 97, of Wilmington and formerly of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 at the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 10, 1918 in Dodsonville, the son of the late Sam and Theresa (Dumford) Spilker. Mr. Spilker was a farmer and machinist for over 40 years. He volunteered for 39 years at the Lynchburg Fire Department and was a member of the Lynchburg United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Dennis) Carrara of Wilmington and Cathie Spilker of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Timothy Hamilton of Hillsboro and Ann (John) Yarman of Mt. Vernon; eight great-grandchildren, Ty Hamilton, Hillary Hamilton, Breanna Hayes Yarman, Levi Yarman, Elijah Yarman, Rebekah Yarman, Lukas Yarman and Seth Yarman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margery Marie Zugg Spilker in 2006; and a daughter, Connie Hamilton.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral services will take place immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home. Pastor David Wirth will be officiating.

Burial will be following services in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery.
