Walking across the nation

Those out and about late last week may have seen Tony Roddy, a 56-year-old U.S. Army veteran, walking through WIlmington. Roddy told the News Journal he is walking across the country to raise awareness and funds for the Make a Wish foundation. “I had a little girl touch me in church with her story,” he said, saying the point of his walk is to do something nice for other people while he still has his health. He said he started out at his home in Maine on April 19, and is walking to Monterey, Calif., where he was first stationed in the army. “I got a few hundred miles under my feet,” he said. “Some days I can feel it.” If you would like to donate to Roddy’s cause, go to gofundme.com/nv1dyk. By the afternoon, Roddy had made it to Olive Branch Road and Middleboro Road, and by the next day he was spotted entering Mason.
