A Beavercreek man sustained a serious hand injury when a piece of fireworks exploded in his hand at a Port William residence, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua M. Tackett, 25, of Beavercreek, was transported by life squad to the Roberts Centre where a CareFlight medical helicopter picked him up and transported him to the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

According to the sheriff’s office report, Tackett and several other people had been setting off fireworks while consuming alcohol.

The accident occurred when Tackett set off a 500 gram mortar fireworks while he was holding it and it exploded in his hand.

The fireworks “appeared to have blown off Tackett’s left index finger and possibly half of his middle finger on his left hand,” the report stated.
