Celebrations enhance involvement

As the leaves finally begin to change after a long and hot summer, with it comes an array of fall festivals to enjoy around Ohio. With Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas right around the corner, there is always a fun event for you and your family to attend in celebration of the season.

In southwest Ohio, the Circleville Pumpkin Show seems to steal the limelight, bringing in thousands of Ohioans from across the state. However, there are plenty more local events that I’d like to bring your attention to.

The Ohio Renaissance Festival, located in Waynesville, is always a unique and enjoyable experience. Entering its final weekend of the year, Ohioans still have a chance to make it down to the festival grounds to be transported back in time. With costumed characters reminiscent of the Renaissance era, hundreds of shops selling handmade items, and delicious bread bowls and turkey legs to sample, a good time is guaranteed for people of all ages.

Wilmington itself is home to many annual fall events, including the Wilmington Gun Show, taking place on Oct. 29-30 and the Southern Ohio Indoor Music Festival Nov. 11-12. While each caters to a specific audience, both events are family-friendly and attract many people and goods to our area. Whether you have a unique and historic gun to display or are looking to experience authentic and local bluegrass, both are sure to entertain.

Towards the end of November, the fairs and activities turn to the Christmas season. You surely can’t miss is the Hometown Holidazzle Parade in Wilmington Nov. 26. With lighted floats, marching bands, and even flame throwers, the parade is the most exciting way to kick off the Christmas season.

You don’t have to travel far to create memorable experiences with your loved ones, as many small town events and fairs are located right down the road. I hope during this holiday season you’re able to attend some of these activities that I highlighted and explore everything your hometown and southwest Ohio has to offer.
