Vote for Wilmington’s future

0

The time for Wilmington to decide on its future is now. On Nov. 8, Wilmington residents will be asked to pass a five-year, 0.5 percent increase to their income tax — the first such increase in over 25 years. Over the last eight years, the city has been spending its “rainy day” fund, and despite attempts to cut expenses and raise revenues through business growth, a deficit in the budget remains.

It is up to voters to give Wilmington’s future a chance by passing this tax, which would bring us up to a 1.5 percent tax — which is still less than the state average. The money will be used to cover the current deficit, rebuild the city’s carryover, and invest in roads and other infrastructure. We have to invest in our wonderful city and its future, and this is a big step. Vote for Wilmington’s future and for the tax!
