C-M board recognizes Coldwater

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

ADAMS TOWNSHIP Clinton-Massie officials continue to be moved by the generosity of spirit conveyed by the community of Coldwater and its football powerhouse high school for giving more than $15,000 to Clinton-Massie freshman Savana Coffman.

At Monday's school board meeting, Clinton-Massie Superintendent Ron Rudduck asked board members to approve a resolution in recognition of Coldwater's caring. The Coldwater school system and community rallied to her support both spiritually and financially, said Rudduck.

Coffman was a heart transplant recipient on Nov. 14. The Clinton-Massie Board of Education and the Clinton-Massie community offer their gratitude to the entire Coldwater community for their extraordinary compassion and kindness, the resolution says. What's more, the resolution states that Saturday will be officially declared Coldwater Cavaliers Day in the Clinton-Massie district, and the entire Clinton-Massie community is encouraged to support Coldwater High School that day in its pursuit of a state football championship.

Rudduck plans to take a framed copy of the resolution to Coldwater's December school board meeting. He said he went through his son's closet and found an orange sweater for the occasion. Coldwater beat Clinton-Massie 63-14 on Saturday in Dayton in the Division IV, Region 16 final.

In addition to the formal resolution adopted by the school board, Clinton-Massie Board of Education member Jeff Borton wrote a letter on behalf of the board to the Coldwater school board, staff, students and Cavaliers fans. The Clinton-Massie community would like to thank you for your gesture of giving at a time of year we celebrate Thanks'. It exemplifies what we should teach our children and ask of ourselves, the letter opens.

Often times in our individual endeavors to be the best we can, we lose sight of what is the end game. The idea of teams, families and communities banding together to assist individuals in need, was a challenge you did not take lightly, and did not go unnoticed nor will it be forgotten.

The Clinton-Massie crowd erupted Saturday night in unified appreciation as the message of your generous gift to Savana was heard over the microphone. Hats were tipped and thank you's were shouted out from across the green turf in reaction to the announcement, Borton wrote.

We would like to congratulate you on your win, wish your team the best, and thank all of those who continue to inspire each of us to be better, concludes the letter.

Clinton-Massie High School Principal Randy Dunlap said the hope is for Coffman to be home by Christmas.
