Simon Kenton ousts WHS boys from Lancer Baker Bash

FAIRFIELD — Wilmington lost to Simon Kenton in the finals round of the Lancer Baker Bash bowling tournament here Saturday at Northwest Lanes.

Wilmington was seeded 13th after the 26-team event was pared to the top 16 teams. All games were Baker games, where each of the five selected bowlers bowls a different frame.

Coach Joe Davis said all of the Hurricane bowlers — Josh Cordy, JT Croghan, Ryan Hottinger, Tristan Reiley, Andrew Thompson, Timothy Wright and Zack Zeckser — helped over the course of the event, which included 16 Baker games then a bracketed tournament. Simon Kenton was the No. 4 seed in the bracketed tournament and defeated Wilmington in a best of three format.

“Many times early in the tournament, things happened that we could have folded but they held strong and fought back to earn the right to move on tot he final tournament bracket,” Davis said.

Wilmington’s high game was 235. The Hurricane averaged 186 over the course of the first 16 games.

Davis said Hottinger had 14 strikes in a row over a five-game stretch.

“When the team hit a lull, Zack and Josh strung together some strikes and helped put a spark back in the game,” Davis said.
