Bad stretch costly for Falcons in 62-54 loss

CHILLICOTHE – One bad stretch proved costly for Clinton-Massie in Saturday’s 62-54 South Central Ohio League boys basketball loss to Chillicothe.

The Falcons were outscored 19-4 to end the third quarter and never recovered. They went from up 32-30 to down 49-36.

“We played so hard,” CM coach Dustin Eads. “We just have to find a way to stop turning the ball over.”

Both teams were coming off Friday night games – the Falcons lost to Washington and the Cavaliers defeated East Clinton.

Clinton-Massie is now 5-10 overall and 3-8 in the league. Chillicothe is 9-8 overall and 9-3 in league play.

Trey Uetrecht had 19 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Massie attack. Thomas Myers had 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.

For Chillicothe, Kristian Boltenhouse hit 11 of 13 from the field and finished with a game-high 25 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

A night after netting 20 against East Clinton, Chillicothe’s Simon Roderick was held scoreless against Clinton-Massie. Ironically, Boltenhouse had just five against EC.

After battling through a tight first half, the Falcons again fell victim to have buzzer beater at the half. Washington hit one Friday night and Chillicothe’s Nathan Rosenbauer hit a fall-away, baseline three-pointer that kissed off the glass and in to tie the game at 25-25.

Unlike, Friday, though, Clinton-Massie didn’t seem to be rattled by the three in the third. Uetrecht hustled his way to a basket by grabbing the offensive rebound off his own missed three. Nick Chowning then threaded the needle on a pass to Noah Greathouse to put Massie on top 32-30.

From there, the Cavaliers played like a different team, one that seemingly woke up after an early start. They scored 10 unanswered points and 16 of the next 20 in all to seize control of the game, 49-36.

Massie did get as close as seven (58-51) in the fourth but never seriously threatened down the stretch.
