The Wilmington High School girls basketball closed out its regular season with a 65-32 win over Cincinnati Christian Saturday at Fred Summers Court.

The non-league victory leaves the Lady Hurricane at 11-11 on the year. Cincinnati Christian finishes its regular season at 10-12.

“This game couldn’t have come at a better time,” WHS head coach Mark Short said. “Coming off Clinton-Massie (a WHS loss) and getting everybody involved, was good.”

The game was the home finale for WHS senior Je’Taysia Johns, who scored two points for the Lady Hurricane.

Mya Jackson led WHS with 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Leah Frisco had 17 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Faith Sanderson had three rebounds and two steals.

“It was real sloppy in the first half,” Short said of the game. “But we were able to build up a lead and were able to work on some things in the second half.”

Wilmington now prepares for its Div. II sectional tournament game 11 a.m. Saturday at Lebanon High School against Chaminade-Julienne.

“It will be a tough test but we beat them early by three,” Short said. “Like the Massie thing, they don’t feel they should have lost to us. They are playing much better now. We expect a hard-fought game that could go either way.”
