Tunon leads county into wrestling post-season

Clinton-Massie’s Davey Tunon headlines the field of Clinton County wrestlers beginning the post-season wrestling grind over the next three weeks.

Tunon, 34-1 this season, finished third in the state last season at 152 pounds in the Div. III meet. This year, Tunon will be wrestling in Div. II.

Clinton-Massie and Wilmington will be competing in the Div. II sectional tournament at Washington Senior High School in Washington Court House.

Blanchester and East Clinton wrestlers will be competing in the Div. III sectional at Blanchester High School.

At Washington Senior High School, wrestling is scheduled to begin 6 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The final round — with championship, consolation and fifth-place matches — is scheduled to start 30 minutes after the last match of the third consolation round but no earlier than 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Doors will open for ticket sales 3:30 p.m. Friday and again at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

At Blanchester High School, the first session begins 5:30 p.m. Friday with Saturday’s matches beginning at 11 a.m.

The final round — with championship, consolation and fifth-place matches — is scheduled to begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the semifinal round matches Saturday afternoon.

The top four finishers in each weight class at both sites will qualify for their respective district tournaments next week at Hobart Arena in Troy. The fifth-place finisher will be a district alternate.

For Blanchester, Cade Huston, a junior, has the top record at 26-8 at 220 pounds. Ramiro Torres, a freshman, is 17-14 at 152 pounds.

Other BHS records are freshman Brent Hopkins 19-11 at 120, freshman Clayton Schirmer 12-8 at 126, freshman Hayden Tedrick 4-7 at 132, freshman Luke Thacker 1-4 at 138, freshman Steven Latchford 13-17 at 145, junior Dalton McMullen 7-20 at 160 and sophomore Justin Lucas 2-14 at 285.

Junior Noah Morgan is East Clinton’s top winner at 27-12 at 145 pounds. Sophomore Austin Brock is 26-11 at 120 pounds.

Also for EC, senior Josh Jones is 19-18 at 106, senior Samuel Morgan is 9-9 at 138, junior Thomas Wright is 23-15 at 152, senior Charles Erdman is 13-18 at 160, senior Cameron Bloch is 24-15 at 170 and sophomore Darrel Perry Jr. is 6-20 at 182.

For Wilmington, Jacob Boldman is 18-2 at 132 pounds. He is followed by Bryant Bergefurd 16-10 at 160, RJ Tolliver 14-10 at 195, Cameron Smart 12-10 at 106, Gage Smith 11-9 at 220, Briten Kessler 9-5 at 182, Collin Greene 7-12 at 126, DOug Eastes 6-6 at 170, Trent Holliday 2-5 at 138, Scott Gehlbach 1-3 at 152 and Wesley Lunsford 0-1 at 285.

For Clinton-Massie, Ross Lennon is 24-11 at 160, Anthony Tissandier is 20-4 at 170, Matt Asher is 19-10 at 113, Nathan Allgyer 19-12 at 106, Zach Dillow 15-13 at 138, Bryson Mills 14-6 at 132, Jackson Grigsby 10-18 at 220, Sam Brothers 9-14 at 195, Nathan Gibbs 5-16 at 126, Ashdain Martin 3-11 at 182 and Jared Isaacs 2-12 at 120.
