EC, Blan wrestlers one step from state

Four wrestlers from East Clinton and Blanchester will be competing Friday and Saturday in the Div. III Southwest District wrestling tournament at Troy’s Hobart Arena.

Doors will open 2 p.m. Friday with the first session scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The second session Friday, which will be the quarterfinal round and round one consolations, is set to start at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, doors will open 9 a.m. with the round two consolation matches as well as championship semifinals and consolation semifinals in session three scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

The arena will then be cleared with the championship and consolation finals as well as the fifth-place matches slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Admission is $12 Friday for both rounds, $22 for all sessions, $6 for session three and $7 for the championship round.

Wrestlers from East Clinton and Blanchester will be participating in the tournament. The top four finishers in each of the 14 weight classes will advance to the state tournament next week in Columbus.

District wrestlers from East Clinton are Samuel Morgan (11-11) at 138 and Noah Morgan (30-13) at 145.

District wrestlers from Blanchester are Brent Hopkins (21-12) at 120 and Clayton Schirmer (15-9) at 126.

Hopkins 120-pound weight class is loaded with four wrestlers projected to finish in the top eight in the state. Samuel Morgan’s 138-pound class is the same way with four projected to finish in the top eight at state. In addition, the 285-pound class has four projected to finish in top seven at state.
