TROY — One Clinton County wrestler managed to win his first match Friday at the Div. III Southwest District on Hobart Arena.
Clayton Schirmer of Blanchester was the only county wrestler to win his first match here Friday. He pinned Noah Maynard of Richwood North Union in 1:08 at 126 pounds. Schirmer was then knocked into the consolation bracket when he lost by pin in 40 seconds to unbeaten George Clemens of Wayne Trace.
Blanchester’s Brent Hopkins won his second match at 120 pounds, pinning Le’on Palomo of Ottawa-Glandorf in 4:44. Hopkins lost his first match 6-4 to Coleman Ryan of Covington.
Both Schirmer and Hopkins will wrestle on Saturday.
Austin Brock of East Clinton entered the tournament as a fifth-place alternate. He was defeated in two 120-pound matches — losing by pin in 1:05 to Alex Rhine of Mechanicsburg and 9-0 to Nick Miller of Richwood North Union.
Samuel Morgan of EC at 138 pounds lost both of his matches Friday. He was pinned by Lee Dues of Allen East in 31 seconds and then by Brandon Strickland of Mount Gilead in 1:41.
Noah Morgan of EC also lost two matches at 145 pounds. Morgan was pinned by Cody Dickson of Spencerville in 1:18 and then lost to Josh Cook of National Trail in a thriller 4-3.
