The third annual Ohio Valley Hoops Classic basketball tournament will be held in Highland County.

Event director Bennie Carroll said the tournament is moving to Southern State Community College’s Patriot Center. The games will be played Dec. 2-3 and possibly Dec. 4, pending confirmation of participating teams.

“We’re still searching for our home and moving the site is just another way to build our fan base,” said Carroll, a teacher and girls varsity basketball coach at Blanchester High School. “There are no Div. I teams in southeast Ohio, so they don’t get to see teams like this very often.”

Carroll noted the prestigious Flyin’ To The Hoop tournament was held at Vandalia’s Butler High School before moving to its current home Fairmont High School’s Trent Arena in Kettering.

Carroll said Lynchburg-Clay High School will be the host school.

Carroll said returning teams include Wilmington, Blanchester, East Clinton, Lakota East, Mason, Chaminade-Julienne and Paint Valley.

The rest of the field includes Whiteoak, Paint Valley, McClain, Fayetteville, Pickerington North, Hilliard Bradley, Upper Arlington, Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.), Louisville Fern Creek, Cooper (Ky.), Cincinnati Oak Hills, Kentucky Country Day, Gamble Montessori, Centerburg and New Richmond.

He added the talent level in the tournament, should all committed teams play, would be the overall best pool of talent in the three-year history of the event.
