CM shrugs off slow start, stops EC 11-2

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Erasing a third inning deficit, Clinton-Massie rolled to an 11-2 win over East Clinton Wednesday in South Central Ohio League action on the CM diamond.

The Lady Falcons trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the third after EC’s Maddie Cox singled home Tress Osborne and Kaitlin Durbin.

“Not our best game tonight,” CM coach Andy Lauer said. “We didn’t hit the ball very well at all. East Clinton played a good game. It wasn’t until the fourth inning that we decided it was time to play when we pushed seven runs across.”

The big hit in that fourth was a two-run double by Caitlyn Robinson, who had three hits and scored three runs in the victory. Lauer said Robinson’s hit “gave us the little spark that we needed.”

Once in the lead, CM turned things over to Claire Carruthers who blanked the Lady Astros over the final four innings.

“Claire pitched a good game,” said Lauer. “She hasn’t thrown a lot here lately so it was good to see her have a good game.”

Carruthers, 3-0 on the year, gave up one earned run and struck out two as Clinton-Massie improves to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the SCOL.
