Keller 3-hitter leads Hurricane to 4-1 win

HILLSBORO — Brad Keller pitched a three-hitter and Wilmington defeated Hillsboro 4-1 Monday in a South Central Ohio League baseball game at Dick Schafer Park.

Keller (2-1 on the year) walked one and hit a couple of batters. He struck out eight, including the final batter of the game.

“He pitched a marvelous game,” WHS coach Rick Kneisel said of Keller, whose other win this season came in a relief effort against Hillsboro. “He had not had a real start. It was some gutsy pitching.”

As the game went to the bottom of the seventh, Keller was on a short leash, Kneisel said.

“We had Stephen (Krause) warmed up and ready to be brought in,” the WHS coach said. “If anybody would have got on, that would have been it (for Keller).”

Instead, Keller put the Indians out in order to push the Hurricane record to 8-6 overall and 7-1 in the SCOL.

Andrew Davis and Keller had two hits each. Davis scored three times while Keller doubled and drove in a run.

Brady McCune and Chad Davis also had RBIs for WHS. Krause had a hit and drove in a run. Chris Wolary tripled for the Hurricane.
