GREENFIELD — The East Clinton baseball team picked up its first South Central Ohio League win of the season Monday with a 3-1 win over McClain.
Austin Arellano picked up the pitching victory, scattering seven hits and walking three. He struck out six.
Lance Vadnais put East Clinton ahead for good with a run-scoring hit. Cole Jenkins and Cameron Conner also had hits in the Astros’ three-run sixth inning, according to coach James Huff.
Huff said Brent Newman threw out a potential run at home plate in the McClain sixth. East Clinton also cut down a would-be run on a Brandon Norris to Dylan Michael back to Norris play.
“We’ve got the defense to play any game and we proved it (tonight),” Huff said. “We’ve got a lot of injuries. (But) they’ve all got heart and poise to play for each other to get the job done.”
