Hurricane, Barker blank Astros in JV baseball

The Wilmington High School reserve baseball team defeated East Clinton 10-0 Tuesday in South Central Ohio League action on the WHS diamond.

The win lifts Dustin James’s squad to 8-6 overall and 7-2 against SCOL squads.

Nathan Barker went the distance on the mound, hurling six innings with nine strikeouts. He allowed three hits and one walk.

“Nathan got ahead of hitters, threw strikes and our defense did helped him out,” James said. “Logan Frazier made a great play late in the game in right field, laying out for a ball that was tailing toward the fence.”

Wilmington had 17 hits and stole seven bases. Colt Smith had a game-ending double among his two hits and drove in two runs. Alex Meyer had three hits and scored a run. DJ Ames had two hits, scored a run and drove in two runs.

Brett Bell also had two hits, including a double, scored a run, stole two bases and drove in three runs. Kyler Reed had two hits, two runs, two stolen bases and drove in two runs. Zach Eden had two hits and one RBI. Barker was two hits and knocked in a run. Frazier had a hit, scored a run, drove in a run and stole two bases.
