EC boys, girls use depth to win quad meet

East Clinton seniors Alexis Haines, Sam Gaddis, Brian Barnes, Erik Moore, Paul Luttrell, Nathan Crouch, Tressana Osborne, Josh Jones.


LEES CREEK — East Clinton won both the boys and girls meets Monday in a four-team track and field event at ECHS.

The Astros used their depth to defeat Lynchburg-Clay, Whiteoak and Fayetteville.

On the boys side, Lynchburg-Clay had the outstanding field competitor for the boys as Carter scored 12 points while Ison of Whiteoak scored 18 points on the track.

Brian Barnes won two events for East Clinton, claiming first in the 110-meter high hurdles (17.1) and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (47.1). Josh Jones won the 3,200-meter run (11:48.1). EC also won two uncontested relays.

For the girls, Leininger of Lynchburg-Clay was the top scorer in field events while Tackett of Whiteoak and Blankenship of Lynchburg-Clay shared top scoring honors on the track.

Mindy Bean won the long jump (11-5.5) for the Lady Astros while Shelby Williams won the 1,600-meter run. East Clinton also won the uncontested 4×800-meter relay.
