HILLSBORO — Wilmington had seven hits and six runs in the seventh inning Tuesday en route to a 10-8 win over Hillsboro in South Central Ohio League softball action.

“The girls never quit,” WHS coach Glen Blessing said. “They had to overcome some physical and mental errors early in the game.”

Down 8-4 going to the final inning, Meghan Fisher and Keli Bair began the inning with back-to-back singles. Hunter Toller doubled home a run then Lyla Self singled home two to bring WHS within 8-7.

With two outs, Hannah Chase singled to move Self to third then Je’Taysia Johns singled to tie the game 8-8. Brooklyn Keaton then doubled home two runs as the Lady Hurricane grabbed the lead.

Blessing said the change of pitchers by Hillsboro beginning in the fourth inning helped his squad gain confidence, especially in the seventh inning.

“The bats woke up,” said Blessing said. “It’s a funny game sometimes how contagious hitting can be.”

Courtney Smart then closed things out with a 1-2-3- seventh inning on the mound for WHS.

Chase finished with three hits for Wilmington.
