ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Behind the no-hit pitching of Taylor Florea, the unbeaten Clinton-Massie softball team opened Div. II Dayton Sectional tournament play Thursday with a 4-0 win over Valley View at CMHS.

The Lady Falcons, now 23-0 on the year, will face 8-15 Bellbrook 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lebanon Middle School in the lower bracket sectional championship game.

Bellbrook defeated Valley View twice during the regular season.

Florea walked two batters but did not allow a hit for the second consecutive game. She also pitched a no-hitter Saturday against Wilmington in the Lady Falcons’ regular season finale.

“Taylor did an excellent job mixing up her pitches and hitting her spots,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “She pitched a great game”.

Florea struck out 13 Lady Spartans.

Clinton-Massie had just six hits, but they were timely, for the most part.

“Tonight wasn’t a good night for our bats,” Lauer admitted. “Fortunately we were able to get the hits when we needed to. We also were able to execute some timely bunts that allowed us to create opportunities.”

Caitlyn Robinson had a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Kelsey Carter scored on Robinson’s homer and also had a squeeze bunt to bring home Emilie Fisher in the third. Taylor Flanigan singled in Hailey Clayborn in the fourth.
