Massie puts 4 hits to good use in 6-2 tourney win

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — Four hits were good enough on offense for Clinton-Massie’s baseball team thanks to the pitching of Wyatt Jefferson.

Jefferson handcuffed Ross on two hits as the Falcons rallied for a 6-2 win in a Div. II Dayton 3 Sectional tournament game Thursday at Paul Schwamberger Field.

The Falcons, now 21-3 on the year, will face Waynesville 5 p.m. Thursday at Monroe High School in the sectional championship game.

Jefferson, who pitched a no-hitter Sunday against Wilmington to clinch Clinton-Massie’s share of the South Central Ohio League crown, struck out nine Rams and walked just two.

“He just had another real good outing for us,” CM coach Brian Camp said. “He couldn’t have had them at a better time. He’s done a whale of a job the past week.”

Ross led 2-0 going to the bottom of the fifth. Clinton-Massie had threatened a couple times through the first four innings but were unable to dent the plate, Camp lamented.

But in the fifth, the Falcons strung together three hits, a couple of Ross errors and two well-executed bunts to get the offense rolling. JP Cantrell then ripped a two-run double down the left field line to make it 6-2.
