Track, field regionals underway

East Clinton’s Thomas Wright and Brian Barnes kick off the Clinton County quest for the state track and field meet Wednesday at Troy High School in the Region 12 Track and Field Championship.

Wright in the boys discus and Barnes in the boys 110-meter high hurdles will compete Wednesday at Troy. Wright’s discus competition will be a finals event starting at 4 p.m. Barnes venture in the 110-meter hurdles will be at 5 p.m. in the preliminary heats on Wednesday with the final set for 6:05 p.m. Friday.

On Thursday, the Region 8 Track and Field Championship will be held at Welcome Stadium. Bailey Leforge and his Clinton-Massie boys and girls teammates along with the Blanchester boys and girls will begin competing Thursday, field events set to start at 5 p.m. and track events set to start at 6:30 p.m.

Clinton-Massie participants Thursday will be Bryson Mills in boys pole vault, Leforge in the boys long jump, the boys 4×800-meter relay, the boys 4×200-meter relay, the boys 4×100-meter relay, the girls 4×100-meter relay, Cole O’Bryon in the boys 400-meter dash and the boys 4×400-meter relay.

Blanchester participants Thursday will be Joey Holcomb in the boys discus, the girls 4×800-meter relay and the girls 4×400-meter relay.

On Friday, Ashlynn Hickey is scheduled to throw the girls shot put at 4:30 p.m. in the Region 4 Track and Field Championship.

Also on Friday, but back at Troy High School, Barnes will run in the finals of the 110-meter high hurdles if he advances.

On Saturday, the Region 8 meet continues at Welcome Stadium. Those preliminary event participants from Thursday who advance to the final heat of their respective events will compete Saturday, with track events starting at 12:30 p.m. Field events are set to begin at 11 a.m.

Clinton-Massie’s Preslee Rolf in the girls pole vault, Chris Demler in the boys high jump, Jocelyn Burton in the girls discus and Jacob Whitaker in the boys 1,600-meter run will compete on Saturday for the only time in the regional meet.

Blanchester’s Holcomb in the boys shot put, Morgan Deless in the girls discus and Savannah Rhodes in the girls 3,200-meter run will compete for the only time in those events at the regional meet.

Clinton-Massie’s Bailey Leforge will be competing in the long jump competition at the Region 8 Track and Field Championhip meet at Welcome Stadium.
