The Wilmington Hurricane 11U baseball team has earned a seed in the Greater Cincinnati Knothole Association city tournament and will be representing Wilmington and Clinton County in the event.

The Hurricane, who play in the C Senior Athletic Knothole League, finished first in their division during regular season play. The team is coached by Ron Fickert and Eric Dodge, who are assisted by Travis Hibbs and Jimmy Smith.

“It takes a lot of commitment and dedication to win an opportunity like this,” said Fickert. “These young athletes are consistently trying to better themselves, working not just at practice but at home and with each other on off days to improve and get stronger and it’s translating to success on the field.”

The majority of the players on the team roster have been playing together for five seasons and are sponsored by Doug Zeigler, State Farm agent; El Dorado Mexican Restaurant; Stewart Electric; Dick’s Sporting Goods; Catered Sounds DJ Service; Pickard’s Lawn Service and Matrka Renovation and Painting.

The Hurricane will begin play in the tournament Saturday at Pendery Park in Kentucky.
