George Phillips, son of former Wilmington High School golfer Kris Phillips and his wife Mariam, finished ninth in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship tournament at Midland Country Club, Pinehurst, N.C.

George Phillips, 6 years old, is the grandson of George and Melanie Phillips of Wilmington. Kris and Mariam live in Charlotte, N.C.

The tournament was held July 30-31 and Aug. 1. There were golfers from 48 countries. In George’s 6-and-under age group, there were 77 golfers.

George had nine-hole rounds of 37, 39 and 36 to finish at 4-over par 112. He is rated No. 1 in his local Charlotte, N.C. U.S. Kids Golf Tour.
