Phillips 14th in U.S. Kids Golf world tournament

George Phillips, grandson of George and Melanie Phillips of Wilmington, finished 14th Aug. 6 in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship tournament at Pinehurst, N.C.

Phillips is the son of Kristopher and Mariam Phillips of Charlotte, N.C.

Playing in his third U.S. Kids Golf World Championship tournament, Phillips had a three-day total of 120. He competed in the 7-year-old division with 124 other golfers, from 18 countries. Phillips played the Mid Pines layout at Pinehurst.

With his top 20 finish this season, Phillips is eligible to compete in next year’s tournament.

Phillips has been playing golf since he was 2 and has been competing competitively since he was 5.
