GREENFIELD — With four goals from Sam Spirk, the Wilmington High School boys soccer team steamrolled McClain 8-0 Tuesday for a season-opening win in South Central Ohio League action.

The Hurricane posted the shutout with Jalen Douglas recording six saves and Nate Lakes getting three.

“Started off the game a little more sporadic than we like,” said WHS coach Imad El-Macharrafie. “Our game is control in the back and distribution through the midfield to our forwards and that’s what we accomplished as the game went on.”

Avery Greenlees, Eli Hicks, Charly Schumacher and Wyatt Kessler notched goals for the Hurricane.

Greenlees, Lakes and Schumacher also had assists. Seth Gundlach and Fernando Marin had two assists. Graham Vilvens had an assist as well.

“(I was) very proud of how well our goalkeeper and defense kept the ball out of the net and the pressure our midfielders and forwards kept on to put the ball in the back of their net,” the WHS coach said.
