HAMILTON — Just two days after a disappointing finish in the South Central Ohio League golf tournament, the Clinton-Massie girls team flexed its muscle Monday at the Div. II Hamilton Elks Sectional tournament.

The Lady Falcons soared to a 15-stroke win over runnerup Fenwick 406 to 421. Wyoming was third with 424 and McNicholas fourth at 424.

“I was happy with the way the girls battled all day in the conditions,” said CM coach Tim McGraw.

By finishing in the top spot, the Lady Falcons advance as a team to next week’s Div. II Southwest District tournament at Pipestone Golf Club in Miamisburg on Wednesday.

The Hamilton Elks offered a par 72 layout but weather conditions added an extra element to the mix.

“The course played very difficult,” said McGraw. “We had a couple of delays, so we would get started and then stop.”

Individually, Gabby Woods was the pacesetter for CM with a 94.

Kelsey Smith and Taylor Kropp both had 103s and Angela Miller came in with a 107. Jezreel Forand had a 112.

Woods finished fifth overall. She was the second freshman finisher in the sectional, behind Sydney Mallaley of McNicholas who had an 85.

The sectional medalist was Sammi Blackburn of Monroe who shot a 7-over 79.
