Lady ’Cane overpowers Lady Blue Lions 8-1

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — The Wilmington High School girls soccer team blasted the Blue Lions of Washington Senior 8-1 Thursday night in South Central Ohio League action.

Jasmine Jamiel led the offensive thrust with four goals and an assist for Wilmington.

The Lady Hurricane is now 7-3-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the SCOL.

Bridgette Thompson had two goals and three assists for WHS while Autumn Housh had one goal and one assist. Anna Borton, seeing her first varsity action of the year, coach Kerry Lewis said, had the other Wilmington goal.

A senior captain and four-year varsity player, Thompson now has five goals and 11 assists on the year.

“We are playing 10 freshmen and sophomores significant minute,” Lewis said. “Bridgette has been our constant force. Bridgette has been the glue all season, holding things together. Bridgette makes everyone around her better, especially the younger players. Bridgette is a great role model to her teammates on and off the field. It’s a joy to see Bridgette having such a great senior season.”

Assists also were credited to Ashlyn Carey and Jordan Snarr.

Wilmington played with injured standouts Savannah Morgan and Katlyn Jamiel but both are expected to return soon, Lewis added.
