WEEK 6: Falcons crumple Paper Lions 70-0

ADAMS TOWNSHIP – The last South Central Ohio League team to beat Clinton-Massie in football — Washington Court House on Oct. 12, 2007 — had one last chance to vanquish the master of the SCOL domain.

And like the 54 challengers since that night, Washington, which is among the group leaving the conference at the end of the school year, failed, 70-0.

This perhaps was previously unbeaten Washington’s biggest test of the 2016 campaign as its opponents had a combined 6-19 record entering Friday. Coming in averaging 40 points per game, WCH (5-1, 2-1) was Massie’s 38th SCOL shutout victim since the Falcons entered the league in 2005.

Massie (5-1, 3-0), ranked 12th in latest Associated Press Ohio Division IV poll, scored the first four times it had the ball. The first came after stopping WCH on 4th-and-13 on its 17. The last came after a Blue Lion fumble at the CM 25.

CM put the running clock into effect in the second half by taking a 35-0 cushion to the locker room. And even the running clock couldn’t slow Massie’s fireworks.

Devon O’Bryon returned the second-half kickoff 66 yards to the WCH 6. He sneaked it in three plays later to put Massie up 42-0.

A pair of pick sixes on the next two Blue Lion drives, by Cole O’Bryon and Cade James, pushed Massie’s margin to 56-0.

The wheels continued to fall off on Washington’s next drive. Another fumble led to yet another Falcon score, this time by the second-stringers. Clayton Sheeley crossed the goal line from two yards out for a 63-0 lead.

Sheeley scored again with 2:53 left in the contest, a four-yard plunge, to set the final score.

The Massie JV came in to preserve the shutout against Washington’s first string.
