Lindsey goal salvages tie for BHS girls soccer 1-1

BLANCHESTER — For the seventh time in their 16 regular season matches, the Blanchester girls soccer team played to a tie. The Ladycats and Goshen finished the regular season in a 1-1 draw at Barbour Memorial Field Thursday in a non-league matchup.

Blanchester heads into the post-season tournament with an 8-1-7 record. BHS will take on Batavia 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barbour Memorial Field.

Despite several opportunities, Blanchester was unable to score early in the match, coach Kurt Ballinger said.

After a scoreless first half, Goshen took advantage of a failed BHS clear attempt and grabbed a 1-0 lead.

BHS senior Merri Lindsey leveled the match at 1-1 when she scored on a header off a “well-executed” corner kick from Emily Hinkle.

Regan Ostermeier had for saves in goal for Blanchester.

At the end of the match, 10 BHS seniors were honored for their contributions to the program — Emma Gundler, Chloe Caplinger, Mckenzie Hamm, Mckenzie Miller, Merri Lindsey, Cassidy Todd, Sydney Scott, Brynne Cain, Savana Greene and Bekah Sams.
