ALLIANCE — Mount Union scored less than two minutes into the second overtime to record a 3-2 victory Saturday over the Wilmington College men’s soccer team in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Mount Union Stadium.

“It was a heartbreaking loss,” said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. “We battled back twice to get back into the game.”

The Purple Raiders took the lead in just the fourth minute, but it didn’t take too long before the Fightin’ Quakers found the back of the net. Sophomore Niklas Martennson headed home a corner kick from freshman Anton Holmqvist in the game’s 10th minute.

With a goal in the 33rd minute, the Purple Raiders reclaimed the lead.

Martennson tallied his sixth goal of the season off a free kick in the 69th minute as the Quakers tied the match at 2-2.

Wilmington had a chance for the game-winner in the final moments, but a crossing pass was scored after the time had expired.

Senior Nick Baker made three saves on six shots.

Wilmington (4-10-2 overall, 1-6 OAC) hosts Muskingum 7 p.m. Tuesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
