BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester reserve girls basketball team defeated Amelia 27-22 Thursday for its first win of the season.

The teams were tied going into the final quarter but the Blanchester defense “effectively pressured Amelia,” coach Braden Pyle said, and went on to the victory.

Shelbie Rose led the Ladycats with 11 points and several “huge steals,” Pyle said, in the fourth quarter.

Kassidy Abney had five points and Holly Scott added four. Hayley Wilson, Ashlin Benne and Regan Ostermeier scored two points each. Alexa Sams added one point.

“I told the girls when the game was tied after the third quarter that whoever fought and played harder in the fourth quarter was going to come out on top,” Pyle said. “Fortunately, that team was us.”
